5th AVIS 2015 (Chulalongkorn University, Thailand)

The 5th International Symposium on Asian Vertebrate Species Diversity (5th AVIS) was held at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok & Saraburi, Thailand from 15th to 19th December 2015. The symposium successfully gathered 111 participants from 13 countries in Asia and other regions. There were six oral presentations done by researchers from UNIMAS:

  • Dr Faisal Ali Anwarali Khan as invited speaker

  • Speciation within the Southeast Asian round-leaf bats (Chiroptera: Hipposideridae), based on genetics, morphology and echolocation call frequencies

  • Ms Madinah Adrus

  • A review of non human primates as resevoirs of disease in Malaysia

  • Mr Rafik Murni

  • Phylogeography and morphological variations within Muller's giant ratSundamys muelleri (Muridae) with an emphasis on Malaysian fauna

  • Mr Julius William Dee

  • Comparative phylogeography of Genus Crocidura (Family: Soricidae) in Malaysia

  • Mr Qhairil Shyamri Rosli

  • Preliminary study of cranial morphometric analysis of the house shrewSuncus murinus from Malaysia, Indonesia and Japan

  • Mr Muhd Amsyari Morni

  • Genetic and morphological assessment of Crocidura monticola from Malaysia

  • Ms Farhana Mazlan

  • Population genetics study of Nasalis larvatus in Malaysian Borneo using the Cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene

Congratulation to one of our lab member, Mr Muhd Amsyari Bin Morni for getting the Best Oral Presentation Award. The symposium successfully facilitate and develop peer collaboration between researchers that attended this symposium. It was a great experience for us and thank you to the 5th AVIS 2015 organizing committee for organizing this wonderful conference.
