Shrew Research Team (UNIMAS-UM), Exploring Kubah NP and Matang WC

On 22nd to 28th February 2015, field trips along with a team from Universiti Malaya were held at Kubah National Park and also Matang Wildlife Center. The Universiti Malaya team was led by Dr Hasmahzaiti Binti Omar, one of the best shrew researchers in Malaysia. Accompanied by Ahmad Syihan, her postgraduate student and assist by their staff,Mr Marisi, which his skill in digging the pitfalls is undeniable. During the trip, we have been taught on how to choose the best site for setting pitfall, how to process samples correctly and above all, how to correctly identify each species of shrews. Our spirit was boost up when in Kubah NP, we manage to trap lots of shrew. Nur Mukminah, one of our lab team (Tarsier project) also join this trip and managed to trapped Western Tarsier! We are excited! After taking all significant data, it was released back to the wild. Thanks to Dr Hasmahzaiti Binti Omar, Mr Ahmad Syhan and Mr Marisi for coming to Sarawak, Land of the Hornbills and join us in this trip. Special thanks also dedicated to our brother, Hasrol for willingly helping us throughout this sampling trip. The working environment was very good, we have a great time with them and of course, we are looking forward to work together again.
